| A total of 125 doctors rendered their services in the two-day camp. About 400 volunteers from IIA, apart from about 60 women volunteers attracted special appreciation from the dignitaries who visited the camp. There were many dignitaries to visit the camp on Saturday who include ambassadors from the embassies of Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan and the Acting Counselor at the South African Embassy visited the camp. In addition to the envoys, Abdul Wahid Al Mulla, Consultant, Heart Surgery, HMC, Ibrahim Al Hydoos, head of Municipal Council, Ahmed Abul Rabb Al Sha’abi, Admn. & Finance Manager, Qatar Central Bank, Abdul Aziz Al Malki, Head of Legal Section, QCB, visited the camp. |
The majority tested at the camp was found to be suffering from diabetes and hyper tension, diseases normally found among the affluent section, said Dr. Saleem, President IMA, who supervised the medical arrangements of the camp. Saleem noted that the high consumption of sugar and starch dominated food and lack of adequate physical exercise could be reasons behind the high percentage of these diseases among expatriates. About 20 suspected cases of oral cancer were referred for further treatment. |

The health lectures organized along with the camp attracted a large number of audiences. 12 lectures were presented by eminent doctors from private and the public sectors and special sessions were held for women on the last day of the camp in which Dr.Hema Rajiv spoke on Ultra Uterine Bleeding, Dr.Sujatha spoke on Breast Cancer-Self Examination, Dr.Najeeb on Allergy and Asthma and George Paul on Preventive Dentistry.
The inauguration ceremony which was held on Friday marked with the presence of ambassadors of different Asian countries, along with the officials from the Ministry of Public Health, Hamad Medical Corporation and Q-tel, the exclusive sponsor of the event. |
